I just thought that I could writing some lines to update my journal, tell you about my recent activities, and last not least, thank you all for some great conversations I shared with you here on dA. It's been really a pleasure writing you and reading your comments lately, so thank you guys a lot!
This summer, I had a great time with U2 on their two concerts here in Germany. Especially the concert in the Olympia stadium in Berlin was great. I went there with my brother and we had a wonderful show from Bono, the Edge, Adam, and Larry. I was stunned about how well the new songs from "No line on the horizon" turned out on stage! Also, we had a great audience performance. If you're interested, here's a link to a rather good YouTube-video from the concert ( click here ).
Then again, I made a research trip to the Bayer corporate archives in June. The outcome of my research was rather ambivalent, but I managed to make a nice night trip around the old town of Cologne one evening. I took various pictures with my new SLR, but few of them turned out really good. I uploaded the first one here and I am really proud of it. Soon, two others will follow!
To conclude this entry, I hope there will be a lot of new upload-worthy pictures when I return from Prague. It's my first vacation in a foreign country for years now, and I am quite thrilled. Also, it will be the first time that I will take a flight. The last time, I was on a plane, I was one and a half years old!
Wish me luck with the camera and please excuse my absence from dA for the next two weeks,
Yours
Miou

I got back from Germany a week ago. I wanted to thank you for all the advice you gave me. I had a really great time. It's an amazing country, and reminded me in several ways of England, such as the countryside seen from the train, and the way each city has the same kind of shops and the modern architecture is also very similar in ways.
I like each city I visited, but Berlin definatly had to be the best. It was so vibrant and full of life-very refreshing, it was amazing to see how it has managed to rebuild itself.
Hope everythings going good in Trier.
It's great to hear from you again! I'm so relieved that you liked it here in Germany and that you have got all those good impressions of our country. I just saw your photographs. They are great - especially the shot of the statue of Aphrodite!
Well, I think we should blame the same shops on globalization, but do you really think that the countryside is so very much the same? I admit, I should visit England more often, but everytime I am abroad, I find something unique in foreign surroundings ... ah well, that could be because I always get a more general sense of being "not at home and on vacation" ...
I also like Berlin very much, though I still have to get to know it better. But you're right: It's very alife. I just visited the town for the U2-concert in the Olympia stadium and it was a great trip!
Here in Trier, everything is according to normal life: summer heat, a lot of literature to read for my PhD thesis, and whatnot ... How's it in Shrewsbury?

I guess Globalization is to blame for the shops. Well I didn't expect the countryside to be so similar to Englands. Parts I've seen on past train journey's, through the Bavarian Alps, and black Forest I thought were completley German, and could be nowhere else on earth. But from what I saw this time, especially on the train between Cologne and Berlin, It seemed very similar. It may have been because It was raining, and it seemed a little grey and washed out. However each little village or town that I passed through by train was very different to England, and fullfilled my expectations.
I imagine Berlin is quite a difficult city to get to know well, as it is so big. The U2 concert must have been cool!
What Kinds of literature do you have to read?
Shrewsbury is well enough. So much for our summer. We get about one day of sunshine a week, the rest is rain, Naturally.
Speak soon. Dan
Yeah, I guess work can compensate for rainy days. I myself find it easier to work when it's pouring outside. But one day of sunshine a week? That's rather depressing!
Honestly, this summer is the first I really enjoy and this year, I tend to take my work outside, trying to catch some sunshine ... hm, trying to pick up some colour more likely.
So, I normaly grab two of the articles or a book that I have to read and venture outside. About that: It's mainly scientific writing about the chemical industry in Germany during the 1920s-30s, network analysis and body discourses ... it's a broad topic.

About the books you have to read-they sound a little complicated! When you mentioned literature I assumed you meant novels and stories and things. It sounds quite 'indepth'
Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts.
Just added my comment to your beautiful painting - and your painting to my
